I never knew that the Mid Ohio Regional Planning Commission was in charge of monitoring our air quality here in Central Ohio. Smog alerts were issued by MORPC for yesterday and they continue today as Columbus and the other five counties making up Central Ohio continue to be hot and in much need of a good rain. Today marks the 12th time this year we have been under a bad air alert.
Long known as a think-tank of sorts for the region’s appropriate and sustainable growth, MORPC is an excellent resource for those looking to learn a little more about the area’s economy.
An Air Quality Alert is issued for Friday, August 22 and Saturday, August 23. The region – Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin, Knox, Madison and Licking counties – is likely to experience ground-level ozone pollutionlevels that are Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups on the national Air Quality Index (AQI) scale.
