Single Women Continue to be a Big Part of Columbus & National Home Buying
February 29th, 2008 categories: Real Estate News
Every few months, it seems, I run across an article in print or online that talks about single women home buyers being an enormous demographic and that these single women are buying not just more homes, but starting at an earlier age than single men. Apparently I blog about it every couple of years too.
I ran across one again today that said, “Single women are the fastest-growing group of home buyers in the U.S. They totaled 22% of all buyers in 2006, according to the National Association of Realtors.
That’s up from 14% in 1995. What’s more is single women are the second biggest category of buyers behind married couples. Single men represent 9% of all home buyers.”
The Street.com article also mentioned some Realtor’s opinion that first time single female buyers, “do a lot of homework ahead of time. They know what they want, which areas they want to live.”
I find that among my clients who are first time home buyers, single women definitely rank right behind young married couples and waay ahead of single men. I will have a closing next week with a great single woman who is purchasing a condo in Merion Village. Prior to even contacting me, she done a tremendous amount of homework and knew what she wanted, what her budget was, where she wanted to be and what criteria she was looking for. The home she will be purchasing next week is one that she’d been tracking for about 10 months and she knew everything about it.
A couple weeks ago I had a closing with a single guy and I really enjoyed working with this particular buyer. He also knew what he wanted and when he found it, he was ready to go because he did a great amount of homework on the home and the block and his comfort zone financially.
If you’re looking to purchase your first home or move up to your next home, I would love to be a trusting, educational part of your transaction.
