There is a silent health hazard in thousands of older Columbus homes. Lead in paint is a leading cause of lead poisoning in children.
According to the Columbus Health Department approximately 2,500 children suffer the lifelong effects of lead poisoning, including learning disabilities and attention deficit disorders.
Health, Housing and Human Service Chair Charleta Tavares will hold a public hearing on the dangers of lead on Tuesday, May 15 at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers. The hearing will feature leaders in the Columbus health community and parents of children who suffer from lead poisoning.
